This is a beautifully restored 1928 Ford Model A convertible sedan. Apart from the fact that this one is in particularly excellent shape, and I love the color, the Model A doesn’t really interest me at all. Like the Model T before it, the model A was as ubiquitous in its time as a Taurus or Camry is today. Possibly even more so. This means that at any classic American car show, you will find quite a few of these, right along with the 65 Mustangs and the 57 Chevys. I have plenty of respect for this classic car and the people who love it, but it would never have a place in one of my fantasy garages. however, I know plenty of people love them, so I figured I’d share this example with you.
This is the first 2017 Porsche 911 I have seen. You may remember about a year ago, when Porsche announced that for 2017 the whole 911 model range would be turbo charged, the entire Jalopnik community, and Oppo in particular, got themselves into a terrified and outraged frenzy. After all, this was going to be the death of the real 911, just like the switch 2 water cooled engines in the nineties was the death of the real 911.I don’t much care what aspiration the 911 uses, it is a fantastic-looking and fantastic driving sports car, and I want one very badly. You may be wondering to yourself how I can love a car that is even more common at a country club than the model A is at a car show. I can’t claim to dislike vehicles that aren’t unique while at the same time embracing one that is so popular and mainstream. Actually, I can, because I don’t enforce the rules, I just make them.

I would drive a model A touring, as pictured here. Although I prefer the T.

I’m pretty much where you are - I’ve seen Model As, and even ridden in one, but it’s very old machinery that’s difficult to operate. If I wanted a classic car, I’d probably go 60s Thunderbird or some sort of Riviera.

Not sure I would put an A in my dream garage but because I want the ownership experience of a Pre War car on a more limited budget I would look to buy an A

I do like the A’s shrunken Lincoln styling though. If you want an affordable prewar car that will be relatively straightforward to keep on the road, that’s pretty much it. Model T’s struggle on steep hills and any roads with over about a 40-45mph speed limit, A’s can handle most non-expressway driving perfectly fine.
